Alpaca Shearing

Shearing is an annual event, usually during November. It is a particularly busy time leading up to shearing day as the Alpaca need to have their drenching and vaccinations, fibre sampling and grading prior to shearing.

During shearing, our specialist shearer and his trusty assistant, secures the Alpaca on the shearing mat by tethering their limbs to ensure that everyone if safe during the procedure that takes approximately 5-6 mins.

The fibre is immediately graded, skirted and sorted by colour, micron and strength. Depending on the quality, fibre can be spun, or used in any number of our products. Nothing is wasted! Fibre unsuitable for products will be used as mulch around trees or shrubs.

Following the shearing, the Alpaca are released and immediately allowed to feed and water as desired.

We do not currently have open day during shearing.
